To label Soi Thaniya as Bangkok’s ‘Little Tokyo’ might be doing the Japanese capital a little bit of an injustice. This Silom street is well-known for its collection of gentleman’s lounges, go-go bars and massage parlours targeting the Japanese market; a little similar to the adjacent Patpong Road, just with no night market.
However, come to Soi Thaniya after 20:00 and there’s an obvious giveaway about what these bars are all about. Dozens of girls, many not wearing too much, pour out into the road to entice in the customers. Away from its seedy-side, Soi Thaniya does have a couple of excellent Japanese restaurants, Thai street food vendors and a couple of more laid back bars with only drinks for sale, rather than anything else.
